Abt Associates seeks a qualified Senior Application Developer to support our DSET Division. We are looking for experienced full stack developers with expertise of one or more of the following: building and deploying serverless applications in the AWS Lambda, JavaScript frameworks like Angular/Node/React/Vue/Nux, backend databases from MySQL and PostgreSQL to AWS RDS and Aurora along with a good understanding of web design and usability. The senior developer will work closely with internal and external clients and serve as both a consultant and solutions provider. The senior developer will help architect, define and build solutions to meet the business needs. The senior developer will oversee the testing, quality assurance and post rollout troubleshooting and enhancements. Candidate should demonstrate a willingness to seek novel solutions to technology and business problems and the flexibility to acquire the necessary skills for implementation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of complex applications using the appropriate approach and technology, while directing the project development team.
  • Create technical application designs by documenting process flows; mapping functional requirements to technical requirements; creating database diagrams; and creating application prototypes, where applicable
  • Estimate the level of effort required to complete technical work
  • Plan technical work so that it may be completed on schedule and within budget
  • Coordinate quality control activities by developing test plans, executing tests, and facilitating transition to end-users for testing and signoff
  • Builds web applications using predefined template structures to respond to client needs
  • Participates in client needs assessments, develops strategy and information architecture, including sitemaps and wireframes
  • Supports clients' technical issues with web applications
  • Acts as liaison with internal partners and individual users to ensure positive web experience
  • May serve as project leader and/or supervise other technical staff on project teams as required
  • Ensures that all documents meet established content standards
  • Manage and mentor junior staff
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Writing JavaScript targeting the Node runtime for AWS Lambda or equivalent
  • Experience building and deploying serverless application in the AWS environment
  • JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks such as Angular/Node/React/Vue/Nux
  • AWS experience (EC2, RDS, S3, etc.)
  • HTML5 / CSS
  • PHP
  • Version control repositories like Bitbucket
  • Task management in software development tools like Jira and Confluence
  • A desire to write re-usable, readable code using the most up to date industry standards
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in translating perceived needs into technical requirements
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast paced, deadline driven environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS 5+ years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
