Opportunity

Abt Associates seeks a qualified Occupational Health Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary team supporting national-level occupational and environmental safety and health programs. Projects encompass support of various occupational safety and health regulations, exposure assessment and modeling, cost estimations for implementing worker safety and health protections, and guidance development on protections for workers in various settings.

The successful candidate will conduct research, literature reviews, develop quantitative models, and integrate findings in compelling client reports and guidance documents. The position holder will serve as the primary client contact and translate client needs and/or objectives into specific deliverables. The successful candidate will manage small interdisciplinary teams and direct and manage the planning, design, and implementation of technical project protocols and procedures.

Federal government agencies, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency call on us to conduct policy-driven research and evaluate their key programs.

Key Roles And Responsibilities

• Direct and manage projects with responsibility for budget management, project deliverables, client relations, and staff supervision. Set priorities to ensure the completion of projects in an accurate, timely and cost efficient manner.
• Generate additional projects through work with current clients.
• Direct and serve as the subject-matter expert in the preparation of analysis and guidance with responsibility as the senior technical writer. Serve as the primary reviewer of the analytical and technical writing of less senior staff
• Collaborate with peers to identify new research approaches and potential markets for those services
• Actively participate in the mentoring of less senior staff
• Present and speak at client and professional meetings

Preferred Qualifications

• The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree in occupational or environmental health, an outstanding academic record and at least 2 years of applied experience in the field.
• Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills are essential
• Must have proven technical expertise in OSHA regulations and occupational health in US industrial settings.
• Experience in project management, client relationship management and supervision/staff development is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

• MA/MBA with 7 - 10 years of experience OR PhD with 4 - 6 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, this position will be based as a telecommuter for the foreseeable future. Only when Abt reopens offices to all employees will there be an expectation that new hires return to the geographical office to which they were hired.
